Marketing, advertising, public awareness campaigns

I have in the past held several customer-facing roles, including working with clients of Access Gaming Systems to produce websites and games, and extensive training of client staff in Europe, Australia and the US.

As Director of First Take Productions in Papua New Guinea, I worked with numerous clients ranging from multinational corporations to small community groups in producing national advertising and marketing campaigns.

Graphic design and page layout

I began working as a professional graphic designer in 1996, after having produced graphics for community and commercial productions since the mid '80s.

In my work at Access Systems Research and Access Gaming Systems I was originally hired as a professional graphic designer. I have produced graphics for web and print, including numerous complete commercial websites.

Writing for the web

I have been writing for the web for many years, including drafting copy for high-traffic sites within the RSVP Personals network, and preparing marketing and information emails. Prior to this I have written and edited text for the web for a range of clients.

Technical management

Having worked in a relatively formal Java development environment at Access Gaming Systems, where thorough requirements definition, detailed technical specification, and comprehensive translation of requirements into test plans was the norm, I have carried forward these disciplines into my work in a much smaller development team environment at RSVP Personals International.

Here, with a much smaller team, I established a culture based on Agile Development principles, using an appropriate and effective level of documentation and technical planning, with an internal wiki as a repository for release tracking and technical documentation, accompanied by visual design diagrams where valuable.

Management of small teams, project coordination

Having worked in, and coordinated, small teams for most of my web development career, I greatly value teamwork and the management practices that best support teams and allow individuals to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Video and audio production

From 1991 to 1994 I ran a small, busy video/audio production company in Papua New Guinea, attached to the country's leading advertising agency. I produced TV and radio advertising, produced health and other awareness programs, developed productions for village theatre groups, and managed a small group of technicians and assistants. I established the first digital video editing system in the country.

During the 1980s I contracted as a professional lighting cameraman, as a video editor, and as a post-production director on numerous productions, primarily for Film Australia, and for others such as Children's Television Workshop (US).
